Shin Tokai Paper to build 70t/h biomass boiler at Shimada mill in Japan
Shin Tokai Paper, a subsidiary of Tokushu Tokai Paper, is going to construct a new biomass boiler at its containerboard and kraft paper mill in Shimada city, Shizuoka prefecture, Japan.
The new boiler, which involves a total investment of approximately ¥12.5 billion ($90 million), will be fuelled with wood biomass and will be capable of generating 70 tonnes of steam per hour, the company said.
With start of operation scheduled for January 2027, the new boiler will replace the existing No.10 biomass boiler, which has a steam generation capacity of 62 tonnes of steam per hour, at the Shimada mill.
The electricity generated by the new boiler will all be consumed on site, with no plan for external sales.
According to Fastmarkets RISI’ Mill Asset Database, the Shimada mill currently runs five paper and board machines with a total capacity of 670,000 tonnes/yr, mostly of containerboard and kraft paper grades.
